About the show
- The BIG Model Train Show brings together the best model railways in the South Island and caters for both the serious modeler and those wanting a family day out.
- Each year some 9,000 people visit the show, enjoy the 30+ layouts on display, and shop at the variety of trade stands.
- Model railways include garden railways, prototype layouts, tin plate and collector trains, static displays, and even toys trains.
- The main scales range from "N" Gauge (1:160) up to Gauge 3 (1:16)
- Previous shows have had themes such as "Around the World by Railway" and "Great train journeys around the world". Railways with trains from Europe, USA, Britain as well as New Zealand are likely to be depicted.
- The train show is run by the Christchurch Model Railway Exhibition Society which represents the numerous model railway clubs and groups in Christchurch. Profits from the show are returned to the groups displaying at the show. The aim of the show is to promote and grow the hobby in Christchurch and the South Island.
- More detailed information about the show will be available from August.
- We look forward to meeting you at the show!
